Where housing is scarce, rents are rising. According to calculations of the real estate association IVD, the nationwide average rent for a standard apartment in an average was 5.78 euros per m² net cold in 2014. Compared to 2013, this corresponds to an increase of 2.1%.
In the major cities the average rental price is significantly higher with almost eight euros per m², the growth in rents is also stronger than the national average: In 2014 the IVD observed an increase of approximately 3% compared to 2013. The average purchase price for condominiums in 2014 was at 1,082 euros per square meter, an increase of 4.5% the previous year. Residential property prices and price growth is also higher in the major cities than in smaller cities: The purchase price for existing housing in the major cities in 2014 was at an average of 1,689 euros per square meter, about 9% more than the previous year.
